Indian with a differance: The Rupee Room

If you’re the type of person that enjoys an Indian every once in a while than I would suggest that The Rupee Room in Ayr, near Wellington Square, is a must.
It takes a whole new approach to Indian food where I’d say everything they cook is done in the visible tandoori oven. I think it’s their unique selling point, it certainly is something different.
The menu in The Rupee Room has taken a step side to the more traditional tandoori houses and I’m sure you’ll find a few new items on the menu that you’ve never seen before and once tried you’ll be amazed why all the other Indian restaurants don’t have a similar menu.
The South Indian Garlic and Chilli curry is by far the best curry in Ayrshire (although I’m open to try the competition) And I’ve certainly never came across cauliflower pakora.
As a standard the venue is top notch and the staff friendly and funny.
Well worth a try.

I can’t fault the food at the Rupee Room in Wellington Square but just recently I have found the formerly funny and very friendly service to be rather terse and strained. Perhaps there just aren’t enough servers or maybe their tempers get squeezed as they squirm through impossibly small spaces between tables, but I have not appreciated the change. Unfortunately I am not the only person with a similar perception: I have spoken to several people who have felt the service has gone ‘off the boil’ here.
Hi Steve,
Thanks for your comments regarding the Rupee Room in Ayr.
Came accross your article whislt searching for a decent Indian restaurant to visit during our recent golfing trip to Ayrshire.
Our first attempt to eat at the Rupee was thwarted as we arrived at 23:15 and the restaurant was closing. The advice therefore is book in advance or arrive before 22:30 as this place can be busy..
We booked for Saturday night and were not dissapointed. Your comments regarding the food and ambience are all spot on. Highly recommended
