Elliots in Prestwick is truly one of the best restaurants in Ayrshire for it’s stylish decor, smoldering atmosphere and great quality food. Situated on the main road on the way towards Ayr, Elliots acts as both a great restaurant and as the best entertainment venue on Ayrshire.

On our recent visit to Elliots we enjoyed the Scottish tapas plate followed by the rump of Ayrshire lamb and the seabass, no complaints. All the food was of the highest quality and tasted great, the service, probably the only of it’s kind, resembled that of a 5 star London hotel.

Once the meal was out the way we stayed on in the bar to dance away the rest of the evening. Unfortunatly for me champagne was on the sights of Mrs Browse Ayrshire and no ammount of vodka and red bull would stop her tugging at my wallet for the Moet bottles.

A good meal, a great night and a few stories to tell. Hint: The champagnes not cheap.

Every evening from 5pm-6.30pm, guests can enjoy a meal from our supper dish selection for just £5.95
Opening Times

Breakfast served from 8.30am
Lunch Menu: Mon – Fri 12pm – 2.30pm, Sat & Sun 12pm – 5pm
Dinner Menu: Sun – Thu 5pm – 10pm, Fri & Sat 5pm – 10.30pm
Lite Bites Menu: Available 12pm – 10pm every day
It is always advisable to book a table in the restaurant in advance on 01292 677 677.

For sample menu’s click here

Children are welcome in the restaurant until 8pm.

The Gables restaurant situated at the back of The Kings Arms Hotel in the town centre of Irvine is a very popular eating place both during the day for lunch and at night for evening meals. It’s owners the Scott family, have created a warm relaxing feeling in the restaurant complete with young friendly staff who are always very helpful.

They have a varied lunch time menu offering such delights as steak pie, haddock in batter, chicken curry, homemade burger and lots more. There is also a lunchtime snack menu available with a selection of wraps and panini’s great for a quick bite on your office lunch break.

The main evening menu has some of the old time favourites like fish and chips, chicken encroute and steak and for the more adventurous there’s something different like the fajitas with chicken or beef. I would personally recommend the surf and turf, a full locally produced 8oz fillet steak with king prawns, absolutely delicious.

So if its a nice romantic meal for two or just a lunch time bite give the Gables a try.

To book a table or find out more about The Gables restaurant the please call on 01294 276432

The Ship Inn boasts to be the oldest pub in Irvine although now there main business is in serving great quality traditional Scottish food. On a resent trip to England for a special occasion we had the opportunity to meet some old friends that used to live near Irvine and the conversation for most of the evening was on how good The Ship Inn was, is and will continue to be.

The menu is varied and is great value for money. I personally recommend the chicken breast stuffed with garlic cream cheese and wrapped in pastry served with seasonal vegetables. I have not had desert as I find the portions very satisfying. You usually have to book during the week as it gets very busy and on a Saturday and Sunday it is first come first served so get there early.

There is also a nice outside seated smoking area where you can take in the lovely views of the sea.

During Monday-Friday the Main Menu is served from 12:00pm-2:15pm and 5:30pm-9:00pm.
On Saturday and Sunday the Main Menu is served all day.
From 2:15pm - 5:00pm Monday - Friday an Afternoon Menu is available.

A known date in the diary this year for all race fans is the 18th and 19th April, Scottish Grand National weekend. But for those of us that don’t pen that date in our calender maybe it’s time we did. Long gone are days of when a day at the races meant standing in the rain and running back and forth to the bookmakers. That’s still usually what happens at most race tracks but Ayr Race Course have decided to do it differently. With over 20,000 people expected to venture into Ayr for the race weekend the organizers have decided to entertainment the flock of race goers with an opening day musical festival with Irish legendary folk rockers The Saw Doctors.

If you’re heading down to Ayr that weekend why not stay in the Ramada Jarvis Ayr hotel where it’s known that all the famous jockeys and trainers stay while in Ayr. If you want to get a good sleep away from the crowds of party mad race goers then we’d recommend the Portland Marine Hotel in Troon where you could also schedule in a round of golf on the Sunday morning at one of Troon’s many golf courses. For those looking for a budget room then why not check out the great prices at the Daviot Guest House or the national chain of Travelodge, situated on the outskirts of Ayr location is ideal for the race course only a 15 minute walk away.

To book tickets for this years Scottish Grand National either telephone 0870 850 5666 or click here to book online.

Dunure is a lovely little fishing village were you will find a nice quiet beach complete with its own castle ruins and plenty of rock pools for exploring. There is a small shop were you can pickup a few of the things you always forget to bring, handy when you realize the bucket and spade are at home.

If your hungry try the Dunure Inn were you will find great food and friendly staff.
One of their specialties and probably the only one of it’s kind in the west of Scotland is the great fish BBQ they put on in the summer, although we’ve been unlucky with our timing and have missed the BBQ, our friends have recommended we get to it when it’s back on. We have used the restaurant a few times now and it makes the idea place to take the family on a Sunday, they also have a nice outside seated smoking area and plenty of parking.
Visiting Dunure and particularly the Dunure Inn on a nice sunny day (weather permitting) is one of the best experiences Ayrshire offers.

If you would like to make the most of your trip to the Ayrshire coast why not spend the night at the Dunure Inn from only £50 per night per room. Click Here for more details

Ayr beach and promenade has been beautifully revamped over the last few years. There is plenty to entertain the children with a great outdoor adventure playground, there is also a crazy golf and mini golf pitch great fun for all ages. The smooth pathways are great for cyclists and skaters but you will have to dodge the dog walkers which are plentiful. There is also a few cafes and take away food places dotted along the promenade so you won’t go hungry. So if you fancy a great day out then head down to Ayr beach, if you see the sun shining head out early as it can get a bit crowded. It really is worth a visit early in the morning or late in evening just when you can catch the sun setting behind Arran, truly spectacular and romantic.
